What is the Florida Women's Business Center?

The Florida Women's Business Center (FLWBC) was established in October 2004 and is the result of a partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration's Office of Women's Business Ownership. The FLWBC is a small business resource center in South Florida dedicated to the individual professional development of women. We provide management and technical assistance, help with efficiently organizing and completing business plans, business counseling, and special workshops, which include everything from starting a business to financial literacy and social media. Although our services are available to all persons, we are committed to attracting and serving women with entrepreneurial aspirations.

Location & Hours:

The FLWBC's three offices are open during normal business hours however services are provided by appointment only. To accommodate our clients, services are sometimes available during evenings and weekends. Contact our main offices or visit our services section of the website to schedule a convenient time and date for one-on-one counseling. Our staff includes bi-lingual counselors and trainers who are able to accommodate Spanish speaking clients.

What is our service area?

We cover 18 counties in the southern region of Florida, with offices in Delray Beach, West Palm Beach, Broward and Lee Counties.

How is the center important to the community?  

Our primary focus is to provide training, counseling, mentoring, resources, referrals and support to women entrepreneurs and to help start, grow, and expand businesses. Florida ranks 4th among the 50 states in its number of women-owned businesses.  Its growth of women-owned businesses outpaces the national growth rate and from 1997 to 2011, Florida women-owned businesses have grown by 73% compared to 50% nationally.   Florida has an estimated 585,500 women-owned firms employing 472,200 and contributing $77.4 billion to the economy.  Additionally, Florida's women employ more people - a 27% increase from 1997 to 2011 which is three times the national average of 8%.

What services are provided?

The Florida Women's Business Center provides a large range of services, including training, counseling, mentoring, resources, referrals and support to women entrepreneurs. 

What is the cost to our clients?

Because we are awarded a grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration and receive additional funding from the TED Center foundation, corporations and individual donors the majority of our services are free. There is no charge for individual counseling and most workshops are free or cost a nominal fee.

Who provides the funding?

Funding for The Florida Women's Business Center is provided in-part by a grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration's Office of Women's Business Ownership and by contributions from The Center for Technology, Enterprise and Development, Inc. (TED Center), corporations, foundations, and individual donors. It is a cooperative program which maximizes the services of the U.S. Small Business Administration's local resource partners and other community organizations.
